Het Nederlands-Vlaams Instituut in Cairo (NVIC) heeft als taak het bevorderen van Arabische studiën in de breedste zin van het woord, alsmede Egyptologie, archeologie, papyrologie, Hellenistische en Koptische studiën. Het instituut biedt onderdak aan onderzoekers en studenten en faciliteert het doen van archeologische opgravingen in Egypte.
